SEDECINE · Dirección General de Cine · Designed at Redviver

One door for an entire industry

The Dominican film industry used to deal with the state one office at a time. Now there is a public site that explains, a directory where the industry finds itself, and a backoffice where every request has somewhere to land.

01

Three products wearing one name

A public site that explains what exists — the services, the requirements, the process — in language chosen for filmmakers, not for the institution's org chart. A directory, so the industry can find itself: producers, crews, locations, services. And a backoffice, because a request that arrives with nowhere to land is not a service, it is a message.

Most portals ship the first one and call it done. The other two are what make it a door instead of a poster.

02

Nobody is obliged to use it

A bank has customers and a ministry has citizens. A services portal for a creative industry has neither: if the visitor closes the tab, nothing happens to them. Every project like this is really a persuasion problem wearing an interface, and it gets designed accordingly:

  • 01Start from the service, not the site. What is the person actually trying to finish?
  • 02Language chosen for the person filing, never for the institution filing it away.
  • 03Reuse flows and decision logic across services. Never reuse layouts.
  • 04Build so the client's own team can keep it running once we are gone. Handover has to outlive us.

03

What it is part of

The virtual window was launched by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs together with DGCINE, to simplify procedures and digitalise the film authority's services — 21 services on the platform, according to the Presidency's announcement of 16 March 2023. The same note puts the sector at some 25,000 jobs generated by filming in 2022, with more than 9,000 registered film agents.

To be precise about credit: that announcement names the institutions and their advisors, not the design team. My part is the one shown on this page — the product design and strategy, done at Redviver.

A request that arrives with nowhere to land is not a service. It is a message.
